En ces temps de confinement, Picasso Administration s’est intéressé au premier marchand américain de Picasso, Valentine Dudensing, et sa F. Valentine Dudensing Gallery. Passionnant retour sur les liens entre marchands français – Rosenberg, Guillaume, Collé…- et la découverte de cette si singulière expression picturale du peintre outre Atlantique.
Remise à l’honneur de l’interview de John Richardson, disparu l’année dernière, qui nous raconte l’exposition Picasso - Les années Méditerranéennes (1945-1962), à la Gagosian Gallery - Britannia Street, Londres, du 4 juin au 28 aout 2010 dont le commissariat lui a été confié. Biographe de Picasso, il nous montre la période de l’après-guerre jusqu’au années 60 notamment autour du travail de la sculpture dont le processus très novateur renouvelle encore un fois notre regard sur l’œuvre de Picasso.

« Je ne veux pas de Picasso car je ne sais pas à qui les vendre » écrivit en hâte Valentine Dudensing à Pierre Matisse début novembre 1928. Dans son rôle d'agent basé à Paris pour la F. Valentine Dudensing Gallery, Pierre Matisse , dernier fils du peintre, allait repérer des œuvres dans les galeries, les ventes aux enchères et les ateliers d'artistes pour que Dudensing (1892–1967) les vendent à New York.

Le 21 mai 1930, sur les Grands Boulevards, à Paris, Nush, née Maria Benz est remarquée par deux promeneurs : René Char et Paul Éluard. L’amour sera au rendez-vous et Picasso, grand ami du poète en fera de nombreux portraits…
Les deux artistes ont participé ensemble au pavillon espagnol, à l’Exposition universelle de 1937. Intéressés par leurs travaux respectifs, chacun à leur manière, les deux artistes ouvraient des perspectives, cherchant le geste nouveau et un autre type de rapport à l’espace…

In these times of confinement, Picasso Administration was interested in Picasso's first American merchant, Valentine Dudensing, and his F. Valentine Dudensing Gallery. An exciting return to the links between French merchants - Rosenberg, Guillaume, Collé ... - and the discovery of this singular pictorial expression of the painter across the Atlantic.
Renewal of the interview with John Richardson, who died last year, who tells us about the exhibition Picasso - The Mediterranean Years (1945-1962), at the Gagosian Gallery - Britannia Street, London, from June 4 to August 28, 2010 whose curation was entrusted to him. Biographer of Picasso, he shows us the period from the post-war period to the 1960s, particularly around the work of sculpture, the very innovative process of which once again renews our view of Picasso's work.
“I do not want Picasso because I don’t know who to sell them too (sic),” Valentine Dudensing hastily wrote to Pierre Matisse in early November 1928. In his role as the Paris-based agent for the F. Valentine Dudensing Gallery, Pierre Matisse (1900–1989), the son of the painter, scouted for artwork in galleries, auctions, and artists’ studios for Dudensing (1892–1967) to sell in New York.

Un emocionante regreso a los vínculos entre los comerciantes franceses (Rosenberg, Guillaume, Collé ...) y el descubrimiento de esta singular expresión pictórica del pintor a través del Atlántico.
Renovación de la entrevista con John Richardson, desaparecido el año pasado, quien nos cuenta sobre la exposición Picasso - Los años mediterráneos (1945-1962), en la Galería Gagosian - Britannia Street, Londres, del 4 de junio al 28 de agosto de 2010 cuya curación le fue confiada. Biógrafo de Picasso, nos muestra el período desde la posguerra hasta la década de 1960, particularmente en torno al trabajo de escultura, cuyo proceso muy innovador renueva una vez más nuestra visión del trabajo de Picasso.
"No quiero a Picasso porque no sé a quién venderlos", escribió Valentine Dudensing a Pierre Matisse a principios de noviembre de 1928. En su papel de agente con sede en París de la Galería F. Valentine Dudensing, Pierre Matisse, el último hijo del pintor, fue a buscar obras en galerías, subastas y talleres de artistas para Dudensing (1892–1967) para venderlas en Nueva York.
